The Four Questions /

[TÁTE ‹MÁME›, Kh’VIL DIKh FREGN DI FIR KÁShES:]

Father ‹Mother›, I want to ask you the four questions:

[FAR VOS IZ DI DÓZIKE NAKhT FUN PÉYSEKh ÁNDERSh FUN ÁLE NEKhT FUN A GANTS YOR?]

Why is this Passover night different from all other nights of the year?

[ÁLE NEKhT FUN A GANTS YOR ESN MIR SAY KhÓMETS SAY MÁTSE, ÓBER DI NAKhT FUN PÉYSEKh ESN MIR NOR MÁTSE.]

On all other nights of the year we eat both leavened and unleavened bread; but on the night of Passover we only eat unleavened bread [matzo].

[ÁLE NEKhT FUN A GANTS YOR ESN MIR ÁLERLEY GRINSN, ÓBER DI NAKhT FUN PÉYSEKh ESN MIR NOR MÓRER ‹BÍTERE KRÁYTEKhTSER›.]

On all other nights of the year we eat all kinds of vegetables, but on the night of Passover we only eat maror ‹bitter herbs›.

[ÁLE NEKhT FUN A GANTS YOR TÚNKEN MIR AFÍLE EYN MOL OYKh NIShT AYN, ÓBER DI NAKhT FUN PÉYSEKh TÚNKEN MIR AYN TSVEY MOL: EYN MOL IN KhARÓYSES UN EYN MOL IN ZÁLTSVASER.]

On all other nights of the year we don’t even dip once, but on the night of Passover we dip twice: once in haroseth and once in salt water.

[ÁLE NEKhT FUN A GANTS YOR ESN MIR SAY ZÍTSNDIK GLAYKh SAY ÓNGELENT, ÓBER DI NAKhT FUN PÉYSEKh, ESN MIR NOR ÓNGELENT.]

On all other nights of the year we eat both sitting straight and leaning, but on the night of Passover we only eat while leaning.

[UN ÍTSTER, TÁTE ‹MÁME›, GIB MIR A TÉRETS AF DI FIR KÁShES.]

And now, father ‹mother›, give me an answer to my four questions.

Wishing all a very happy Passover!
